The gods now embarked on a sudden-death game

The white-robed gods took it upon themselves to help the humans avoid destruction by coming down to Earth again and spreading the message of spiritual enlightenment. Their efforts saw most effective and visible results in the last ten years of the fifty-year stay, with voices calling for spirituality and enlightenment getting louder with each passing year. At the end of the fifty years, the collective human consciousness had advanced far enough beyond the 200 level to escape from deliberate extinction.
The gods now embarked on a sudden-death game, thirty Earth years long. If humans, within those thirty years, either fall below 180 or go beyond 300, the game will end at that point. At 180 or below, the virus would be released immediately without further appeals or stays; at 300 or above, any plans to destroy the human species would no longer be pursued. After these thirty years, if the collective human consciousness level hadn’t reached 300, the human experiment would be deemed a failure and be eliminated, ending the human period of dominance on Earth at a paltry 50,000 years.
The white-robed gods, pleasantly surprised at this hopeful turn of events, now pursued a more ambitious action plan to assist humans in their quest to reach the 300 plateau. The black-robed gods, complacent up until this point, now joined the act on the opposite side, for the result of this game would decide the operational direction of the universe, as agreed before.
The basic rule remained the same: although gods could walk and work among the humans, they could not use any of their godlike accouterments, giving only information to humans and leaving the final choice up to them. This sudden-death game is still going on today, with the collective human consciousness being measured every so often like a pulse. This game could end at any second, and even the gods hold their breath as to the outcome.
